Designer Toy Awards

Tube Dunny by Viseone

Because of a busy schedule and I guess a bit of procrastination, I totally missed writing about the Designer Toy Awards before the public voting closed yesterday. FAIL.

But I did get to vote for a few categories. For those who are still wondering what the Designer Toy Awards (DTA) is, here ya go…

The Designer Toy Awards celebrates the creativity, innovation and artistic excellence in the Art Toy market, which after more than a decade has become a prominent and legitimate form of artistic and commercial expression. This awards ceremony will celebrate the best of the scene’s artists, designers, customizers and manufacturers, as well as honoring those involved in championing Art Toys throughout the world.

The who’s who in the designer toy industry are nominated in 22 categories including Artist of the Year, Best Customizer, Toy of the Year and Outstanding Production. Awarding ceremony will be held on July 31, 2011 at the Munky King Comic Con Party, 410 Tenth Ave., San Diego, California.

Aside from public voting or the Community Choice Awards, the DTA also has a Board Voted Awards. You’ll find the list of the Board of Judges here.

Two of my personal favorites are nominated for the Best Customizer category which is a Board Voted Award. To be nominated is already an honor, great job Rotobox and Jan Calleja! And another Filipino, Nico Deacosta is also a nominee. Wow! Hope you guys win! ^^

I’m also really impressed with the other nominees from the same category. They are:

Viseone — whose Tube Dunny custom is pretty amazing and sought-after (See cover photo above).

Jason Freeny — I think his Hello Kitty Anatomy custom is a must for every Hello Kitty lover.

Doktor A — his extraordinary designs and sculpts are so wonderful to look at.

Duster - Cris Rose
And of course there’s Cris Rose — Oh, those awesome robots, they’re like, really awesome! ^^.

There’s also Drilone, Leecifer, Gary Ham… well, all of them have truly marvelous works. Those judges will definitely have a hard time choosing the winner. Best of luck to all the nominees of the DTA!

Photos are from Viseone.de, Highsnobiety.com, Mechtorians.com and Cris Rose’s photostream.

I wasn’t able to vote for all the available categories for public voting. I was still undecided the first time then it was already too late. Let’s wait how this first DTA will turn out. ^^

That Hello Kitty anatomy toy is cute and creepy at the same time. I don’t know if I want to hold it or keep it away.

I guess it’s kind of creepy but I’d be happy to have it in my collection along with this Hello Kitty Romanelli x Medicom toy. ^^

Oh wow, those are lovely. The Hello Kitty especially. Very creative and a bit creepy, but in a fascinating way.
