My wish to have an Android army came around again when I suddenly remembered about the Android Mini Collectibles that I saw online last year. I guess you can blame it to Androidify which I recently downloaded. Though the Androids that I created using the app do not resemble any of the mini collectibles, I searched for these babies online because number one, they would look really good on my desk and number two they would go well with my Nendoroid collection. ^^;
Created by New York based artist and avid Android user Andrew Bell and produced by Dyzplastic (a division of Dead Zebra, Inc.), these 3″ vinyl figures with rotating arms and head come in blind boxes which can be either be frustrating or exciting for collectors. Series 1 featured 12 different designs. Single random figure retails for $7.50 USD while a case of 16 which is a nearly complete set will cost you $116 USD. Too bad they’re all sold out now and will not be available again according to the Dead Zebra website. (I really want that worker Android, too cute!) Perhaps you can try your luck to purchase them from other online retailers but be ready to pay for premium prices especially for the rare/chase Androids.
The special editions look great too. The Power Vampire will not be available again and the snowman is currently out of stock.
Android Asia Exclusive was also released last January but this might be even tougher to find.
But fret not Android fans, geeky goodness will still come your way since Series 2 will be released this March 2011. And according to Dyzplastic blog,
…a little tidbit: in Series 02 there are only four 2/16 ratio designs. That means that in any full case you’ll end up with 12 different designs in total, unlike Series 01 where you would end up with only 10!
Yay! I hope I’ll be able to purchase some of these cute little Androids. If you like just the good ol’green variant, you can purchase one at $6.50 USD each. And for toy customizers, there’s also a DIY blank ‘droid for you to enjoy. ^^
